Transport modes within our network

We combine transport modes to create the most efficient, reliable and cost-effective route for each shipment, whether the cargo is containerised, industrial, oversized, high-value, time-sensitive or part of a recurring supply chain flow.

Sea freight

Sea freight provides a reliable and cost-effective way to move goods internationally, supporting global supply chains and international trade. We handle both Full Container Load (FCL) and Less than Container Load (LCL) shipments, connecting businesses with major ports and trade routes around the world.

Once cargo arrives at a European deep-sea port, it becomes part of our wider intermodal network, where it can continue inland by barge, rail or road transport to reach its destination.

Barge transport

Barge transport moves containers between seaports and inland locations via Europe's inland waterways. Through our terminals in Deurne, Genk-Zuid and Wielsbeke, recurring import and export flows can travel further inland by water before being transferred for storage, handling or final delivery.

By bringing containers closer to their destination, barge transport helps reduce congestion around busy ports, lowers emissions and limits the amount of road transport required throughout the journey.

Road transport

Road transport is the link between ports, terminals, warehouses, rail hubs and airports across Europe. It provides the flexibility needed to move different cargo types, connect transport modes and complete first- and final-mile deliveries.

Supported by our own fleet and transport assets, road transport plays a key role in ensuring cargo continues moving efficiently throughout the supply chain.

Rail transport

Rail transport provides a reliable way to move containerised cargo between the Port of Antwerp-Bruges and inland destinations in Belgium and Northern France. It is especially useful for regular industrial, commercial and export flows that benefit from predictable inland capacity.

Through regular rail services and strategically located inland facilities, cargo can move quickly between the port and key industrial regions before continuing to its destination.

Air freight

Air freight is used for urgent, time-sensitive or high-value cargo where speed is critical. Through our facility at Brucargo, we connect shipments to international air cargo networks and coordinate handling from departure to arrival.

Our dedicated air freight team manages both standard and specialized cargo, ensuring shipments move smoothly through one of Europe's most important air cargo gateways.

One cargo journey. Multiple transport modes.

Most shipments rely on more than one transport mode before reaching their final destination. A container may arrive by sea, continue inland by barge or rail and complete its journey by road.

At Gosselin, we connect road, rail, barge, sea and air transport into one network. Through our terminals, warehouses, inland hubs and transport assets, we manage cargo flows from origin to final delivery.

What is intermodal transportation?

Intermodal transportation combines multiple transport modes while keeping cargo in the same container or loading unit throughout the journey. Rather than relying on a single mode of transport, shipments move through the network using the most suitable mode for each stage of the route. This reduces road congestion, lowers emissions and creates more reliable transport flows.

Intermodal transportation powered by synchromodal logistics

Intermodal transportation combines multiple transport modes within a single supply chain. Synchromodal logistics adds flexibility by allowing parts of the journey to change when needed.

A container arriving in Antwerp may continue inland by barge, rail or road depending on capacity, schedules and operational conditions. If circumstances change during the journey, the transport plan can be adjusted without disrupting the overall flow of cargo.

This flexibility helps keep cargo moving when circumstances change, reducing the impact of delays or disruptions within a single transport mode. It also allows routes to be continuously optimised based on capacity, schedules and operational conditions, supporting more efficient, cost-effective and sustainable supply chains.

Exceptional transport for oversized cargo

Some shipments are too large, too heavy or have dimensions that exceed standard transport equipment. For these loads, we provide transport solutions tailored to the specific requirements of the cargo.

For these movements, our Project Logistics team prepares the practical details that allow oversized cargo to travel safely and compliantly, from assessing the route to arranging the permissions and on-road support needed for execution.

Tailored logistics solutions

The right transport solution for every shipment.

By combining our terminals, warehouses, road transport, barge services, rail connections and air freight operations, we design tailored transport solutions for every shipment.

Whether cargo moves by a single mode or through a multimodal network, we select the most suitable route based on transit times, costs, capacity and operational requirements, while coordinating every stage of the journey from origin to destination.

This integrated approach supports efficient cargo flows, optimised transport costs and reliable delivery performance across Europe and beyond.
