Executive summary
Six large-scale works bound for an international stage
Belgian artist Arne Quinze commissioned Gosselin to transport six of his sculptures, named Achillea, Linaria, Knaufia, Lycopus, Silene and Galega, from his studio to an international exhibition in Jebel Ali, Dubai. Each piece, weighing between 2,000 and 3,000 kilograms, needed to travel by sea in its own container alongside its matching pedestal, arriving intact after three weeks in transit.
the challenge
Safeguarding heavy, oversized sculptures over a long sea voyage
Moving artwork of this scale carries risks that standard cargo does not. The sculptures range up to nearly seven metres in length and several tonnes in weight, and each had to remain undamaged through loading, a 21-day ocean crossing, unloading and installation. There was no room for improvisation: every piece required protection tailored to its individual shape, weight and pedestal configuration before it left the studio floor.
The challenge
Six sculptures delivered intact, a route proven for future art moves
The coordinated loading and ocean freight process brought all six sculptures safely from Maldegem to Jebel Ali, ready for handover to BESIX Constructs at the exhibition site. A successful delivery on this scale demonstrates that Gosselin's approach to fine art logistics can support demanding, weight- and size-sensitive shipments over long sea voyages. It has also opened the door to further work with Arne Quinze, including a prospective sculpture move to Sao Paulo, Brazil, extending the relationship beyond this single exhibition.
conclusion
Reliable logistics for large-scale international art transport
Delivering six heavy, oversized sculptures intact after a three-week sea voyage shows how precise loading and dedicated protective packing make international art logistics possible at scale, and why the relationship with Arne Quinze looks set to continue.
