Executive summary

One vehicle, one complete exceptional transport service

For customer Eco-Modal, Gosselin's exceptional transport team collected a 14 600 kilogram tank truck measuring more than 10 metres in length and prepared it for export to New Caledonia. The assignment combined shrink wrap protection, specialised flatbed loading and barge transport via Gosselin's own terminal, bringing multiple departments together into a single coordinated operation.

the challenge

Moving an oversized, overweight vehicle intact

A tank truck of this size and weight cannot be handled with standard transport equipment. At 14 600 kilograms and over 10 metres long, the vehicle needed specialised lifting and loading capacity, full protection against the elements for its export journey, and secure positioning on transport equipment suited to its dimensions. Getting it from initial pickup onto export-ready flatbed transport required close coordination between the exceptional transport team and terminal operations.

Shrink-wrapped, flatbed-loaded and craned onto a barge

Gosselin's exceptional transport team wrapped the tank truck completely in shrink wrap at the customer's request, protecting it for the journey ahead. Specialised forklifts then loaded the truck onto a 40ft flatbed, the equipment needed to accommodate its length and weight. Because Gosselin operates its own terminal, the loaded flatbed could be lifted directly onto a barge by crane, without requiring an external handling partner, and transported to the port via inland waterway ahead of export to New Caledonia.

the impact

One provider managing every step to the port

Owning the terminal let Gosselin control the full sequence, from wrapping and flatbed loading to crane lifting and barge transport, without handing the cargo between multiple external parties. That reduced coordination points between departments and kept the oversized load moving efficiently from pickup to port. According to our Exceptional Transport specialist, this kind of assignment reflects how combining exceptional transport, terminal and inland waterway capabilities under one roof lets Gosselin fully take care of a customer's needs.
