Executive Summary

Building a more sustainable inbound flow

A multimodal freight solution between the Port of Antwerp-Bruges, Wielsbeke and Waregem has enabled TVH to make its inbound logistics more sustainable while improving supply chain flexibility. By combining inland waterway transport with electric last-mile delivery, Gosselin Logistics developed a lower-emission transport solution that supports reliable warehouse replenishment for a global industrial equipment supplier.

The Challenge

Reducing road freight without losing flexibility

TVH required a more sustainable inbound logistics model without compromising operational reliability or supply chain flexibility. As a global supplier of parts and services for material handling, construction, agricultural and industrial equipment, the company depends on a continuous flow of imported containers to replenish its Belgian distribution network.

The challenge was to reduce road transport while maintaining dependable container availability and supporting efficient warehouse operations.

Combining barge transport with electric delivery

Gosselin Logistics implemented a multimodal freight solution that combines inland waterway transport with zero-emission last-mile distribution.

Import containers arriving at the Port of Antwerp-Bruges are transported by barge to Gosselin Terminal West in Wielsbeke. From there, newly deployed electric trucks complete the final leg to TVH's warehouse facilities in Waregem.

Following a successful pilot project, TVH decided to transition all inbound import containers to this multimodal transport model. The solution replaces a significant portion of road transport with inland navigation while maintaining an efficient and flexible container flow into the company's distribution network.

By integrating multiple transport modes into a single coordinated logistics solution, Gosselin helps TVH align operational performance with its long-term sustainability objectives.

The Impact

A lower-emission inbound supply chain

The multimodal transport solution enables TVH to reduce its dependence on road freight while creating a more sustainable inbound supply chain.

Using inland barges for the longest transport leg removes container movements from the road network, while electric trucks provide low-emission transport for the final kilometres between Wielsbeke and Waregem. Beyond the environmental advantages, the new logistics model also gives TVH greater flexibility when planning container collections and warehouse replenishment.

The successful implementation demonstrates how multimodal logistics can support both operational continuity and sustainability goals without disrupting existing supply chain processes. It also establishes a scalable foundation for future collaboration between TVH and Gosselin Logistics as both companies continue investing in lower-emission transport solutions.

Sustainable logistics without compromising reliability

This project demonstrates how multimodal logistics, inland waterway transport and electric last-mile delivery can work together to create a more sustainable inbound supply chain. By combining operational reliability with greater transport flexibility, Gosselin Logistics helped TVH advance its sustainability ambitions while supporting efficient warehouse operations.
