Time-critical air freight for the world's oldest orchestra

Gosselin coordinated air freight, customs clearance and road transport to move instruments for the US Marine Band's first European tour in 20 years, connecting Brussels with the World Music Contest in Kerkrade, Netherlands.

3 days, no delays

Instruments had to reach Kerkrade and return to the US by Monday.

Zero customs delays

No room for error, a hold-up meant musicians without instruments on stage.

One coordinated operation

Executive summary

A three-day window for the world's oldest orchestra

The US Marine Band, known as "The President's Own," is the oldest professional orchestra in the world and rarely performs outside the United States. For its first European tour in 20 years, the band had just three days on the continent to reach the World Music Contest in Kerkrade, Netherlands. Its regular US mover, Interstate, brought in Gosselin to handle the international transport of its instruments, requiring time-critical air freight, fast customs clearance and precise ground coordination to keep the band on schedule.

The challenge

Zero margin for customs delays before a live performance

The band's tight touring schedule left no room for disruption. Instruments needed to arrive in the Netherlands in time for their performance at the Rodahal in Kerkrade, then travel back to the United States for a show the following Monday. As a government and military logistics shipment, the move involved extensive advance paperwork and customs documentation. Any delay at customs would have left the musicians without their instruments on stage, making airtight coordination between transport and clearance essential to the assignment.

One coordinated air freight and customs operation

Building on its long-standing partnership with Interstate, one of its largest customers in the military moves segment, Gosselin managed the full international leg of the transport. The air freight team at Brucargo in Brussels handled the outbound and return shipments, while Gosselin's in-house customs department cleared the instruments without delay. A dedicated tractor-trailer covered ground transport, and instruments were loaded onto pallets and packed identically for both the outbound journey and the return trip, protecting them and keeping handling times short at each stage of the time-critical air freight operation.

the impact

Instruments on stage and home on schedule

The coordinated operation kept the band's tour on track from arrival in Kerkrade through to its return flight home. Gosselin collected the instruments immediately after their performance and had them repacked and ready for the journey back to the United States in time for the band's next show. Maj Douglas R. Burian, Executive Assistant to the Director for the US Marine Band, praised the operation as the group left Kerkrade. The project also reinforced Gosselin's role as a trusted partner for time-sensitive government and military logistics, run alongside a parallel move of the US Field Army's instruments via London to Edinburgh for Interstate during the same period.

conclusion

Trusted event logistics for time-critical global moves

This project shows how combining air freight, in-house customs clearance and coordinated ground transport can keep high-stakes, tightly scheduled cultural and military logistics on time. It reflects Gosselin's ambitions to grow further in the event logistics niche within its industrial projects team.
