Executive summary

Extra capacity next door to Carglass

Gosselin operates a dedicated overflow warehouse for Carglass from Unit 3 in Genk-Zuid, located directly alongside the Carglass site. Half of the unit has been fitted with rack storage offering 16 000 pallet positions, currently around 50% occupied with approximately 7 000 pallets. The set-up extends beyond storage alone, linking Carglass's inbound container flow through Gosselin's terminal and inland waterway connections.

the challenge

Absorbing growing storage needs close to the customer

Carglass required additional warehouse capacity beyond what its own site in Genk-Zuid could provide, without adding distance or complexity to its supply chain. Storage needed to sit close enough to the production and distribution site to support frequent, predictable replenishment. At the same time, incoming containers had to be received, processed and routed efficiently, whether destined for immediate use at Carglass or for buffer storage at the neighbouring facility.

Rack storage, barge transport and daily shuttle runs

Gosselin converted half of Unit 3 in Genk-Zuid into overflow warehousing for Carglass, installing racking with a capacity of 16 000 pallet positions. Containers arrive through Gosselin's own terminal, with a significant share transported by inland waterway barge rather than road. Depending on urgency and stock levels, containers are either delivered straight to Carglass or unloaded first at Gosselin's warehouse for onward handling. To keep both sites aligned, an average of five shuttle runs operate daily between the two warehouses, maintaining a continuous flow of goods between overflow storage and the Carglass site itself.

the impact

A steady, scalable supply link for Carglass

The arrangement gives Carglass reliable access to additional pallet capacity directly next to its own operations, without the storage constraints of a single site. With roughly half of the 16 000 available pallet positions currently in use, there is clear headroom to absorb further volume growth as needed. Routing containers by inland waterway barge reduces dependence on road transport for inbound goods, while the daily shuttle schedule between warehouses keeps replenishment predictable and closely synchronised with Carglass's own operational rhythm.

conclusion

A close, flexible extension of Carglass's supply chain

Combining nearby overflow warehousing, barge-fed container transport and daily shuttle runs gives Carglass a scalable, closely integrated storage solution, illustrating how proximity and multimodal transport can support a demanding, high-frequency supply chain.
